Today we continued working on our own original folk tales. We read Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters and four African folk tales about Anansi the spider last week. These folk tales will be illustrated picture books. We also researched the top ten "happiest countries" to collect data such as life expectancy, literacy rates, per capita GDP and the HDI(Human Development Index) for each country (United States was 13th in the list).

Today we read an article about Indian Food and the importance of spice trading by the Arab people during the early years of civilizations building. This article had 8 multiple choice questions and 3 open response questions. Students were asked to bring in a list of spices found in their own homes and find out how they are used.
We have started using Comic Life to make our own graphic novels to help with sequencing in our writing.
